I finally saw Steven Spielberg’s film Disclosure Day on digital from the comfort of my family room. I have some thoughts to share from the perspective of an industry professional as well as someone who has taught on the alien disclosure phenomenon since 2010. And, yes, I know I am late to the party, the guests are all gone, and the snacks are just crumbs in a bowl. But I’ve sat down on your sofa and have something to share.
Disclosure Day is Spielberg’s 34th directorial effort. Some of the most influential and memorable content has come with his name on it. Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and so many more have left an indelible imprint on cinema history. He wrote the story that David Koepp’s script is based on. Make no mistake, this movie is all Spielberg all the time. His hand and his alien obsession are all over this movie. Dating back to 1977 and his Oscar-nominated Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T., The Extra Terrestrial, and throughout 4 other films, if you include his 2001 film A.I. with its alien-like beings at the end, and TV shows like Falling Skies and Taken, he’s been banging the alien drum a long time. As a former drummer, I can tell you he missed a beat and clanked a rim a few times with this one. Might have even broken a stick or two or three.
The film starts out with one of the lead characters, Daniel Kellner, played by Josh O’Connor, on the run after stealing files from a nefarious government agency led by Colin Firth’s character, Noah Scanlon, who is Spielberg’s Satan in this story. The movie is off and running immediately, but for me it felt like I had walked into the middle of a story and had no idea what was going on. Who are these people and why should I care? If I didn’t know the story from the trailers, would I have kept watching if I hadn’t paid to see it? Until Emily Blunt came on the screen almost 20 minutes later, I knew that my answer was a solid no.
Emily Blunt carries this film with solid help from Colin Firth. Josh O’Connor is okay as the Steven Spielberg character in the story, the nerd with a good heart that just wants people to know the “truth”. Daniel’s girlfriend Jane (played by Eve Hewson), the former novice who left the convent and found love, had some good moments that made me care about her. Other than that, I was either annoyed by the characters (Wyatt Russell) or disinterested (everyone else) by their one-dimensional caricature creations. For the most part, it was the casting that held me in place and not the story itself. It was the spiritual components that I knew were coming that made me stay put as well. For Spielberg, this isn’t just a story about alien disclosure; it’s a film made specifically to challenge spiritual perspectives.
Listen. Did you hear it? There’s that familiar Spielberg drum beat again…rat, tat, tat, cymbal crash…aliens good, humans bad.
The attacks against organized religion, specifically Catholicism and Christianity, are blatantly obvious. It was apparent that one of the spokes of this cinematic wheel was to attack religion every chance it got. Over and over, we got the rhythm of the Spielberg beat – aliens good, humans bad, government evil, God is not who you think He is, and the biggest beat of all, aliens are the hope of humanity, not the God of the Bible. Believe in the aliens that are here because they are the world’s hope. It’s their truth that we need. Not just some of the world according to Disclosure Day. All the world is sitting by and watching Disclosure with tear-filled rapt attention. This movie is less about storytelling and more about pushing an agenda. An alien agenda, if you will.
The script was weak and had too many flaws for my taste. Manipulative scenes that didn’t further the story but set up another cinematic device needed to enliven it. A manipulative chase scene or a ridiculous car and train crash. And was it only me who wondered how TV professional Margaret (Blunt) did not know that KCXE was a TV station? Her TV station! As messy and inconsistent as this film was, it made me wonder if I was watching a TV movie or something made for Netflix or Amazon Prime, where it would have been better suited as a limited series than a feature film. Sometimes when I watch a good film, it gives a tinge of longing I had as an actor to have been a part of what I was watching. Disclosure Day is not one of those times.
There is one part of the story that stood out in a way I don’t think Spielberg intended. In his effort to make us think that aliens were good, he did just the opposite. The use of aliens posing as animals to deceive and abduct young Margaret (Blunt) and Daniel (O’Connor) to imprint them (possession) against their will for future use is something fallen angels and demons would do. Benevolent beings don’t do that. Deception doesn’t lead to truth.
Setting up Margaret as a future messiah to humanity who the world would fall for and listen to is something that Satan would do, as he is doing with the coming Antichrist. The scene of the resistance worker who kneels in front of Margaret while doing the sign of the Cross was so out of place and jarring, I could not help but exclaim, “Really?!”. Kneeling in front of the Antichrist is what Satan wants. Watching the world and the religious representation of the Catholic nuns smiling and enjoying alien disclosure is exactly what will happen when the Antichrist is revealed. In multiple interviews, Spielberg stated that this film would challenge people’s religious beliefs, and that is exactly why he made it. We’ve even been told by some preachers and members of the government that coming alien disclosure will shake the faith of the masses.
Sorry to tell you, Mr. Spielberg, and everyone caught up in this alien deception agenda, that for me and many I know, you didn’t challenge our religious beliefs, nor did you even shake them a little. We know the Truth. You made us more determined to stand strong in the faith and the power of the Name of Yeshua Hamashiach, Jesus the Messiah, to shine the Light of Truth into the shadows and expose what is hiding there. When alien disclosure comes, and I know that it will, I will be one of the ones banging a different drum for the King of kings and the Lord of lords against those that would challenge His rule from whatever dimension they are from. For all of us that have been warning about imminent disclosure for a very long time, we thank you for stirring the pot and showing us what had been allowed to settle to the bottom. Many have heard the drums and are rising to answer the challenge. If you are one of them, stand strong and get ready. You are the true Resistance.
